WATER FULFORD
A Township. 2.5 miles south from York, in the East Riding and adjoining Gate Fulford. There are only a few detached houses. The Hall, situated on the east bank of the River Ouse, is the residence of Captain William Henry Key, the Lord of the Manor. Population in 1871 was 62. The Parish Church is at Gate Fulford. Letter are delivered from York about 8 am.

GATE FULFORD
A large Parish in the East Riding of York, comprising the Townships of Gate Fulford and Water Fulford, 1.75 miles south of the City, and forming a great potion of the suburb of York and polling place for the East Riding. The Old Church of St. Oswald is only used as a Mortuary Chapel for the Cemetery. The New Church situated in the centre of the Parish, was erected in 1866, but was partially destroyed by fire in 1877. The living is a Vicarage held by the Rev. Henry Farrow, of St. Albans. The Wesleyans have a Chapel here. In this Parish are the York Cavalry and the New Infantry Barracks. The York Public Cemetery and the Lunatic Asylum supported by the Society of Friends. The Fulford Reading Room (with Library) is open from 8 am to 10 pm. Captain William Henry Key is the Lord of the Manor. Population in 1871 was 3537. Parish Clerk, James Hudson. Post Office – William Hall, Receiver. Letters are delivered through York at 7 am and dispatched at 7.45 pm. Sundays the same. York is the nearest Money Order and Telegraph Office. Schools – Church of England (mixed). Alfred Wilson, Master. York and Fulford Tramway Company (Limited), F.K. Hardisty, Manager, office, “Plough Hotel,” runs to and from Fulford every half hour. There are Two Omnibusses start from the “Bay Horse Inn” every half hour.
